• Musical Planets by Elementary School Students

If you were to create an imaginary planet inspired by Gustav Holst’s “Mars” from The Planets, what melody would it have? What would be its name, and what qualities would it have? This year, third- to fifth-grade students answered these questions as part of Carnegie Hall’s Link Up program, which included a focus on Holst’s famous composition.

Each year, Link Up gives 200,000 students around the world an opportunity to sing and play an instrument with a professional orchestra from their seats in a final concert. Below are a few examples of New York City Link Up students’ musical planets.
